Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for a nine-month, Radiography faculty position in the School of Health Professions beginning the Spring 2027 semester (i.e., January 2027). In addition to teaching, this position will serve as Program Clinical Coordinator as outlined in the JRCERT Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiography.

Responsibilities include teaching college level courses in Radiography. Faculty members teach approximately 15 credits per semester for a total of approximately 30 credits per academic year. This workload may include face-to-face and hybrid/distance learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on college committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, departmental meetings and curriculum planning, programmatic assessment, course and program evaluation, community service, club sponsorship, student recruitment and retention activities, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. This position will have a main focus of teaching Radiation Science courses as well as other courses with specific topics.

Candidates selected for an interview will conduct a 15-minute teaching session on a pre-selected topic. Additional details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.

This is a 9-month teaching faculty position with pay and benefits spread across 12 months with an expectation to start in Spring 2027 (January). This position will have expected summer teaching and clinical coordination duties. It is anticipated that summer hours will be part-time and will vary each year.
Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree required, AND bachelor's degree in progress with anticipated completion date within 24 months of hire. Experience in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising; documented two years' current clinical experience in diagnostic imaging; documented one year experience as an instructor in a JRCERT-accredited program. Holds current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration, or equivalent, in radiography. Holds current, unrestricted Virginia state R.T. (R ). license or be license eligible.
Additional Considerations:

Bachelors degree in Radiography or a Health-related field preferred. Masters degree in a Health-related field preferred. Student-focused with experience teaching students in a community college setting preferred. Experience using classroom technology (Canvas, Panopto, PowerPoint, etc.) preferred. Experience providing student instruction in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings preferred.
