Job Duties
$7,500 Sign-On Bonus or up to $10,000 Student Loan Repayment may be available for eligible new hires
Provides quality professional health care to inmates and assist employees during emergency events.
Maintains accurate and appropriate documentation.
Provides direction and supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, CNAs, Medics, Registered Nurses, and RN Supervisors (RNCAs and RNCBs).
Focuses on carrying out and aligning staff with the mission of the medical unit, the facility, and the Department of Corrections.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to plan, schedule, coordinate, and develop, implement, and evaluate education plans and programs developed from the educational needs for nurses.
Focuses on establishing collaborative relationships with operational leaders and staff on educational and professional nursing practice initiatives to meet educational needs and achieve expected outcomes related to key performance indicators by facility metrics.
Serves as primary instructor and coordinator for American Red Cross Basic Life Support, First Aid/CPR/AED, and Life-Threatening Bleeding Tourniquet Application.
Ensures that all training conducted is in compliance with mandates and requirements established by the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Department of Corrections, the American Correctional Association, The DOC Training Academy, the Code of Virginia and any federal mandates relating to the medical personnel.
Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing (or other state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact)
Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), education/training requirements, and patient safety
Knowledge of medication use, actions and side effects
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize activities (administrative/clinical) of a medical unit
Proficiency in standard computer applications
Considerable knowledge of adult training methods, curriculum design, needs assessment, and evaluation methodology
Extensive experience with teaching in nursing education, developing orientations, and ongoing education curriculum
Additional Considerations
Certified as a BLS/CPR instructor by American Red Cross
Certification in Nursing Education/Professional Development
Willing and able to share portfolio of teaching/education curriculum if requested
Experience in an acute care setting
Correctional Nursing experience
