Make an Immediate Impact in Orthopedic Trauma Care

This is not routine nursing- You will care for patients recovering from traumatic injuries requiring complex orthopedic intervention. You will be part of a fast-moving acute care environment where clinical judgment, teamwork, and adaptability directly influence outcomes. The Role

6 East is a 30-bed primary orthopedic unit specializing in total joint replacement, surgical spine, and orthopedic/trauma patient care. As a high-volume medical-surgical unit, the team delivers evidence-based, patient-centered care to a diverse population while maintaining a strong commitment to clinical excellence and outstanding outcomes.

The unit has achieved prestigious national certifications, including Joint Commission Certification for the Total Joint Replacement Program and the International Geriatric Fracture Core Certification-reflecting a sustained dedication to advancing best practices in orthopedic care.

This is a high-energy inpatient unit caring for patients following orthopedic trauma, surgical repair, and complex musculoskeletal injuries. The team manages patients from admission through early recovery, collaborating closely with orthopedic surgeons, trauma services, therapy teams, and case management.

This position is ideal for RNs with acute care experience who value clinical challenge, consistency, and deep exposure to orthopedic and trauma nursing.

What your day looks like:
  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care to orthopedic trauma patients in an acute inpatient setting
  • Manage postoperative care including pain control, mobility progression, wound management, and neurovascular assessment
  • Collaborate with orthopedic trauma surgeons, advanced practice providers, physical and occupational therapists, and multidisciplinary care teams
  • Respond to changes in patient condition with strong clinical assessment and escalation skills
  • Support safe transitions of care through patient education and interdisciplinary coordination
  • Perform comprehensive admission assessments and develop individualized care plans
  • Coordinate discharge planning and support patients in regaining function and independence


Schedule & Work Environment
  • Full-time schedule: three 12-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Every third weekend requirement
  • Opportunities to explore alternative scheduling models as unit needs evolve

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
