A nursing leadership role with system wide impact.

Procedural sedation is integral to care across clinics, inpatient units, ICUs, and procedural environments, yet it has historically lacked centralized operational ownership. UVA Health created this role to bring consistency, accountability, and clinical leadership to sedation practices across the medical center. The RN Administrative Coordinator for Sedation Services is a high visibility , program building position designed for an experienced nurse ready to influence practice well beyond the bedside.

This role is ideal for a clinically credible RN who understands the complexity of sedation, values education and quality, and wants to shape how care is delivered across an academic health system.

The Role

The RN Administrative Coordinator for Sedation Services serves as a system level clinical resource , supporting procedural sedation across multiple care environments rather than providing direct bedside care. The focus of this role is coordination, education, quality oversight, and infrastructure development, working in close partnership with anesthesia, nursing leadership, professional development, and frontline clinical teams.

In this role, you will spend your time building relationships, standardizing practice, and ensuring sedation is delivered safely and consistently across the organization. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating onboarding, training, and ongoing re education for nurses performing procedural sedation

  • Partnering with Nursing Professional Development to support unit ‑ specific annual retraining tailored to clinical context

  • Conducting site visits for clinics seeking sedation credentialing, including workflow, safety, and recovery ‑ space assessments

  • Supporting quality monitoring and regulatory compliance through dashboard review and follow ‑ up on sedation ‑ related outcomes

  • Collaborating with physician, nursing, and administrative leaders to enforce sedation standards, checklists, and expectations

  • Helping organize simulation ‑ based and hands ‑ on education that prioritizes practical, high ‑ value learning

  • Serving as a trusted liaison across disciplines , influencing practice through expertise and professional credibility

An average day includes time in clinical areas observing workflows, meetings with interdisciplinary leaders, reviewing sedation data, and coordinating education and credentialing efforts. This is a boots on the ground role with meaningful visibility and institutional impact.

Why UVA Health

UVA Health is a nationally recognized academic health system where nursing leadership extends far beyond the bedside. Procedural sedation is a critical patient ‑ safety priority, and this role plays a strategic part in strengthening how sedation is delivered across the organization.

  • Procedural sedation occurs in multiple environments, historically without centralized operational ownership. This position exists to change that.

  • You will help build and sustain a standardized sedation program, aligning practice with national expectations and anesthesia oversight.

  • Your work directly supports patient safety, regulatory readiness, and clinician confidence.

  • Experienced nurses choose UVA Health for this role because it offers the opportunity to build and shape a system ‑ wide program within a complex academic medical center, collaborate closely with anesthesia, nursing leadership, professional development, and quality teams, and apply senior clinical judgment in a role that values influence, credibility, and impact.
