The Wound Ostomy Care Nurse partners with inter-professional teams to provide consultation, education, leadership, and direct care for patients with wound, ostomy, fistula, and incontinence needs. Other responsibilities include:
• Actively participates within an interdisciplinary team; providing advanced clinical guidance to physicians and nursing staff regarding the management of complex wounds, fistulas, moisture management, and pressure injuries. Effectively advocates for patient-centered care. • Provides leadership in hospital-wide pressure injury prevention initiatives, wound care and ostomy care, to include supporting pressure injury prevalence data collection, evidence-based policies, procedures, and protocols, and advisement of appropriate support surfaces, products, and staff decision-making algorithms. • Provides consultation and direct patient care for new ostomy patients. Performs appropriate pre-operative stoma site marking. Develops and conducts pre-operative and post-operative ostomy education, ostomy care plan for the patient and family, and emotional support. Recommends materials and resources needed for ostomy care at home. • Evaluates innovative wound, ostomy, and skin care products and devices. Influences product choice through collaboration with other departments and teams. • Develops WOC related policy, procedure, and practice protocols or guidelines. Provides education to patients, family, and other healthcare professionals individually and in group settings. • Develops and conducts educational programs and clinical instruction for UVA Health staff.

Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire. Experience: 1 year of relevant experience. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
