Job Duties
The Registered Nurse Manager manages a staff of Corrections Nurse Technicians (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs) and support services in coordination with the physician, dentist, psychologist, and security staff to ensure that offenders are provided appropriate medical care.
Develops and implements medical/nursing guidelines and maintains medical records.
If the facility does not meet the criteria for an RNC or there is no RNC/DON, the RNCB will be the designated Health Authority.
Leads/Oversees the direction and supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, CNAs, Medics, Registered Nurses and RNCAs.
Provides training as necessary to staff and education to offenders about healthy lifestyles.
Provides quality professional health care to offenders and assist employees during emergency events.
Maintain accurate and appropriate documentation.
Serves as a liaison between Operations at the institution and the Health Services Unit.
Responsible for the continuous operation of medical services at the institution.
ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVE:
Provide total health care to offenders (routine, chronic and emergency care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge.
Safe medication administration following DOC policy.
Provide employee health services in accordance with policy.
ACA standards of care, Health Services guidelines and policies, Operational policies and procedures are followed.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-RN exam must be scheduled at the time of application).
Must possess an active AHA BLS certification.
Working experience as a supervisor or charge nurse.
Experience as a Supervisory Nurse/Nurse Manager, preferably in an acute care setting.
Working knowledge of principles and practices of professional nursing.
Progressive responsibility demonstrated, such as charge nurse or leading clinical projects and precepting new hires or nursing students.
Experience with monitoring staff performance, including the disciplinary process, and conducting evaluations; creation of EWPs.
Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include CQI, education/training requirements and patient safety.
Knowledge of medication use, actions and side effects.
Ability to effectively communicate, direct and delegate to others while maintaining the daily operations of the department.
Skillful in organizing, planning and implementing policies and procedures.
Proficiency in standard computer applications, such as Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
