Job Description
The Research and Fiscal Manager is a leadership position in Virginia Tech’s Institute for Policy and Governance (IPG). IPG is a dynamic research institute that serves as a bridge between the university and communities and populations that they serve. IPG works to improve programs, policies and funding for vulnerable populations at the local, national and international levels. The incumbent will lead fiscal, administrative and logistical support for technical and applied research projects at the institute, as well as special events and initiatives. The research and fiscal manager will work independently with minimal supervision, and within a team approach in applying university policies and procedures. Identifies and analyzes information required to advise faculty and staff on the processes, requirements, and appropriate documentation for all fiscal activity. Able to work proactively with the VT Office of Sponsored Programs to establish, support and close out sponsored project funds. Managing the ongoing fiscal requirements of sponsored projects including monitoring monthly statements, personnel funding allocation changes, and fiscal reporting among other project specific responsibilities. Will oversee purchasing and payment operations for department by applying university policies and procedures. Requires coordination among Virginia Tech departments, external funders and subcontractors.
Required Qualifications
•A Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree with and/or substantial relevant experience
•Previous experience providing fiscal and administrative support in a professional office environment.
•Fiscal administration skills should include knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
•Previous bookkeeping/accounting experience; experience with word processing and spreadsheet software packages
•Ability to maintain training to learn new fiscal management applications; ability to process assigned work efficiently and accurately
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills and the ability to complete projects requiring attention to detail; ability to manage assignments received from multiple staff and faculty
•Ability to work independently and handle confidential materials and information.
Preferred Qualifications
•Computer experience that includes proficiency with excel and other office applications, use of shared platforms such as google drive
•Knowledge of Virginia Tech university applications such as Banner, Hokiemart, Chrome River, etc.
•Experience with university policies and procedures specifically for sponsored programs, purchasing, accounting, payroll and personnel activities.
