The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Research, at the University of Virginia, seeks candidates for a Research Assistant Professor. This tenure-ineligible position will collaborate closely with principal investigators within the University and other national and international institutions to establish an innovative preventive and treatment strategy for a wide range of musculoskeletal pathologies with an emphasis on osteonecrosis and degenerative joint disease, using stem cells and nano-technology. The successful candidate will closely train and work with laboratory personnel in writing research protocols to obtain sustainable extramural funds, be experienced with the foundations of stem cell and nano-technology, and will also routinely lead lab meetings and journal clubs on a weekly basis. Familiarity with immune cell interactions is preferred.
Potential candidates must have a PhD and experience in the required skills, and have at least 3 years' experience working in the field of orthopaedics and associated research. Candidates should also have extensive experience in growth factors, stem cell immunology, nanotechnology, and be able to manipulate stem cells and their therapeutic use in animals and humans.

Minimum Requirements

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
