The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Research Associate to conduct research in the Larner/Genetta Lab. We have identified the transcription factor and master regulator of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), ZEB1 as a key molecule that functions directly in the repair of DSBs by recruiting the repair pathway choice protein 53BP1 to DSBs. ZEB1 depletion enhances radio sensitivity and increases IR-induced chromosomal aberrations and also increases hyper-resection at DSBs resulting in a ZEB1-mediated alterations in PARP inhibitors (PARPi) sensitivity. Our long term goal is to exploit the ZEB1-53BP1 axis therapeutically to increase sensitivity to IR and to PARPi.
Qualified applicants are required to have a PhD in a biomedical field by start date. A background in DNA repair/DDR is strongly preferred but not required; candidate should have demonstrated proficiency in standard biochemical and molecular techniques. The successful applicant will be expected to independently design, execute and critically interpret experiments and to work both independently and as part of a team.
Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
The position will remain open until filled.
