Position Responsibilities:
The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking two applicants interested in a part time research position in medical physics in our Image-guided Radiation Therapy Research Program. Our research focuses on investigating deformable image registration approaches, radiomics and deep learning approaches for predicting radiotherapy related clinical outcomes on computed tomography images in lung cancer. Of particular interest are applicants with experience in deformable image registration and other advanced image processing techniques, database management and statistical modelling as well as experience with machine learning.
This is an excellent opportunity for physicists or engineers to broaden their research experience in radiation oncology physics.
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics, medical physics or engineering is required. Experience with computational programming in UNIX/LINUX/Windows environments is essential. Successful candidates will have experience working with image analysis and machine learning algorithms in Python, and Matlab environments.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a employee at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
A broad background in engineering mathematics, experimental measurements, and scientific programming are desirable. Clinical experience in medical physics, such as completion of medical physics residency or similar, is of advantage.
Number of Hours per Week: approximately 5 hours for both candidates per week
