The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to join the Wolf Lab. The Lab conducts cardiovascular disease research related potential novel therapies to treat myocardial infarctions and heart failure. This position represents an opportunity to advance knowledge, learn practical lab-based skills, gain research experience, and participate in exciting science for a highly motivated individual.

Applicants should have a background in laboratory research. Specifically, the job requires lab bench-related research, including but not limited to experiments including FACS, isolation of cells and nuclei, Western blotting, general histochemical and immunofluorescence staining, and microscopy. This project will involve work with our transgenic mice colony and cardiac phenotyping. There are also opportunities to assist with in vivo cardiac experiments, perform echocardiography, and develop an understanding of cardiac physiology. Additionally, a desire to publish and present experimental findings is strongly encouraged.
Cardiovascular lab-based research is a pre-requisite. We will teach the applicant the techniques, methods, and protocols necessary for the project.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. and experience with immunofluorescent staining, fluorescent microscopy, working with mice (maintaining a transgenic mouse line, genotyping, phenotypic characterization).
Preferred: Experience with cell culture and/or FACS
Priority candidate review will begin on May 14, 2022; however, the position will remain open until filled.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
