The Research Project Manager will support research for the faculty in the Division of Hospital Medicine. This vibrant and large division engages in multiple scholarly projects to advance the institution’s clinical and education missions with focuses on improving the quality of care, enhancing the training of students and residents, and working to close gaps in equity. Specific responsibilities of this position include managing the day-to-day research administrative needs of faculty including preparing grants, manuscripts, and IRB protocols for submission, performing literature searches, completing sponsor reports, and gathering, inputting, and organizing data for complex research projects. This position will follow VCU internal processes to ensure compliance with VCU policies related to research activities and with federal and state regulatory and fiscal compliance standards

Required Duties

Research Administration
• Assist faculty with study design for research projects
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams of faculty and others including interns, residents, students, fellows, faculty of other academic units, and other project staff to develop research protocols and implement projects
• Develop training materials to educate faculty and staff regarding the conduct of research
• Contribute to the development of study procedures for data collection including: survey development and implementation, database development and management; individual interviews and focus groups; and chart audits as needed
• Ensure compliance with institutional standards for conducting research
• Develop computerized systems for tracking improvement efforts and to monitor data related to research protocols
• Contribute to writing of technical reports for publication or presentation
• Follow all university and School of Medicine procedures for activation and management of clinical research

Data Management and Analysis
• Manage and supervise the development of computerized systems for tracking study progress
• Maintain study files according to GCP guidelines and in audit ready conditions
• Ensure data is entered into secured databases in a timely manner and in accordance with sponsor and university/school-level requirements
• Assist with data analysis using statistical and database software

IRB and Research Compliance
• Assist in preparation of human subjects’ applications and consent forms in compliance with applicable regulations
• Prepare RAMS-IRB (and WIRB as applicable) submissions including: initial, continuing, amendments, safety reports, serious adverse event reporting
• Participate in meetings with faculty and other collaborators to ensure accuracy of subject data and compliance with research protocol and regulatory requirements
• Maintain records of publications and correspondence related to publications
• Develop a library of publications of divisional faculty
• May supervise staff.

Required Education and Experience
• Strong communication, writing and organizational skills
• Experience with managing complexity such as multiple projects simultaneously or multiple competing deadlines
• Experience with research compliance such as with submission to Institutional Review Boards.
• Experience with survey tools such as REDCap
• Proficiency with data management
• Ability to exercise independent judgement based on professional skills and knowledge
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience with data analysis
• Experience with federal grant submissions
• Experience with manuscript publication in peer-reviewed academic journals

Required Certification

Physical and Cognitive Requirements

• Light lifting (less than 20 lb), fast pace, multiple stimulation, intense customer interaction, frequent change, memory, reasoning, hearing, reading, analyzing, logic, and verbal and written communication, sitting, standing, bending.

Additional Information
Hours / weeks - 40 hours weekly
Days /hours - Monday - Friday, Generally 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
