The Center for Public Health Genomics at the University of Virginia is seeking to hire a Research scientist to work on collaborative projects at the cutting edge of human genetics and genomics research under the supervision of Dr. Charles R. Farber.
Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a collegial and productive research team focused on the genetic analysis of complex skeletal traits and osteoporosis. The candidate will work on an exciting and innovative project designed to experimentally identify causal genes for loci identified by genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of bone mineral density (BMD) and define the mechanisms through which they impact bone. The candidate will be expected to utilize a wide-range of experimental tools, including cell culture, RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, luciferase reporter assays, single-cell RNA-seq, among others. The is a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative project; thus, the candidate will be expected to work well both independently and in a team setting. The candidate will be responsible for writing manuscripts describing their work, advising graduate and undergraduate students, and presenting at national and international conferences.
Position Qualifications:
Terminal degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field by the start date of the appointment. ABD may be accepted
Knowledge of and experience with molecular biology techniques and cell culture;
Strong work ethic; the ability to work independently combined with willingness to work in a highly interactive and collegial group
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preference will be given to applicants with at least five years of experience beyond a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics.
