The University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks a Research Scientist with expertise in basic cancer immunology to understand the immunomodulatory effects of drugs on the immune microenvironment, with an emphasis on understanding how epigenetic drugs modulate the immune microenvironment.

Qualified candidates must have at least a Ph.D. with at least 2 years of laboratory experience or M.D. with a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience. In addition to being skilled in routine cell culture, the appropriate candidate should be familiar or directly experienced with the following techniques: methods to generate antibodies; antibody isolation and purification, ELISA, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation and immune cell isolation. A familiarity with gene expression array and gene set enrichment analysis would be considered an advantage, as would 3D cell culture methods. Similarly, the candidate should have some experience conducting experiments in small animal (murine) models.

The candidate will contribute to developing research grant proposals and may pursue independent research funding that complements ongoing research. They will be fully integrated into a well-funded (R01, American Cancer Society Research support, major funding through the Translational Orphan Blood Cancer Research Initiative) world-class laboratory with over 100 years of experience conducting state-of-the-art research and drug discovery and development focused on blood cancers. Successful candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations. The candidate will be in a translational research laboratory and will report directly to Drs. Enrica Marchi and Owen A. O’Connor, in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematologic Oncology.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
