Job Description
A full-time research technician position is available in the Jarome lab investigating epigenetic mechanisms of obesity development in the brain. The lab uses a combination of common rodent obesity paradigms with a variety of biochemical and molecular genetic approaches, including but not limited to western blotting, RT-PCR, bisulfite sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation and CRISPR-dCas9. For this position, the research technician will be responsible for conducting experiments and analyzing data for an externally funded project on the role of DNA methylation in the development of obesity. Specific responsibilities include animal (rat) handling, weighing, feeding, and surgery (stereotaxic), brain tissue collection and dissection, and performing a variety of biochemical and molecular genetic assays as directed by the principal investigator. The successful applicant may be asked to train other lab personnel as needed by the principal investigator and can be involved in manuscript preparation if desired.
Required Qualifications
Experience working with rodents in a laboratory setting and with basic/common molecular biology techniques (pipetting, etc.). However, the successful applicant does not need to have prior experience with all the techniques used in the lab as onsite training will be provided. The successful applicant needs to have good communication and organization skills and be able to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. or B.A. in neuroscience or another related field. Previous experience performing rodent stereotaxic surgeries is desirable but not absolutely necessary.
