Revenue Accountant - #01199 (Financial Services Specialist I, Pay Band 4)
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Finance Office is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and highly motivated accounting professional to serve as the agency’s Accountant. This position will provide timely and accurate processing of financial transactions in accordance with Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP), agency and department policies and procedures. Duties will include: receiving, analyzing, auditing, and keying cash receipt and receivable revenue into automated financial systems; vendor administration; scanning checks for bank deposit using desktop scanner; reviewing, auditing, and keying of general ledger journal entries into agency and Commonwealth accounting systems; administrative reporting; researching and resolving data discrepancies and issues; and performing miscellaneous administrative tasks. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth's telework policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles with experience in cash receipts, accounts receivable processing, and apply concepts of internal control. Working knowledge and experience applying Commonwealth accounting policies and procedures related to revenue processing and vendor administration preferred. Experience utilizing Department of Accounts Commonwealth Vendor Group secure form, eVA, Cardinal, and Oracle-based accounting systems is desirable. Selected candidate must demonstrate exceptional customer service skills; a proven ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing; make accurate numerical calculations; and demonstrate proficiency with automated accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing software. Must have the ability to work in an automated environment and handle multiple tasks with rigid deadlines. This fast-paced work environment requires a collaborative team effort and will involve assisting team members as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance and/or equivalent combination of experience and training with a concentration in revenue processing; proficient data entry skills, effective computer skills, attention to accuracy and detail; and a proven ability to efficiently analyze and compile financial data for reporting purposes.
