Duties & Responsibilities:

The Desk Coordinator works within the Facilities and Operations team to foster a residential environment that fulfills the goals and vision of the Department of Residential Life & Housing Mission to provide safe and well-maintained facilities that build intentional communities to empower residents in their academic excellence, citizenship, and personal growth. The Desk Coordinator is a full-time, professional who will serve as part of the Facilities and Operations team responsible for the daily management of over 6,000 on-campus students. The position will report to the Coordinator of Desk Operations. 

Principal responsibilities include: Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating all RL&H Desk Assistants. The Desk Coordinator serves on a shift basis between 7am and Midnight 7 Days of the week. The Desk Coordinator supports the DAs and provides crisis response for emergencies that arise within the residence hall information desks. Coordinate the administrative functions of residence hall information desks across campus. Provide leadership in promoting an atmosphere within the residential community that fosters responsible decision-making among the Desk Assistants.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Effective management skills;  Effective communication skills (oral and written); Crisis management experience; Ability to work collaboratively; Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; Ability to work well under pressure with multiple and changing deadlines; Demonstrated proficiency utilizing technology such as scheduling systems, web applications, online systems, database software, and standard office packages (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail).

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage several responsibilities at the same time, and resolve problems using initiative and sound judgment. Strong interpersonal skills; Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a Higher Education Setting,  Previous Residence Life experience; Experience collaborating with Res Life and VCUPD; Experience with Access Control; Supervision experience

Salary Range: 40,000 - 45,000
