Sales Associate

The University of Virginia Bookstore invites applications for a Sales Associate. Responsibilities include merchandising, managing inventory, ordering products, assisting customers, and operating cash registers. Work is assigned at the task level and they work under direct supervision.

Responsibilities:

• Greet and offer assistance to customers.
  
• Recognize levels of stock on sales floor, and replenish accordingly.
  
• Continually fix and neaten sales floor area and replace tags as directed.
  
• Respond to customer inquiries on the sales floor and over the telephone.
  
• Receive designated purchase orders and daily transfers.
  
• Keep stock room clean, safe, and well organized.
  
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
  

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
  
• At least one year of prior work experience.
  
• Must possess strong communication and active listening skills to provide exceptional customer service.
  
• Knowledge of cash handling and math skills are required.
  
• Demonstrated excellence in decision making is required.
  
• Strong organizational skills are required.
  
• The ability to work weekend shifts is required.
  

The selected candidate will be required to complete all necessary background checks.

Physical Demands:

This position requires standing for an 8 hour shift and frequently bending/lifting/walking and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 45 pounds.
