The Security officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all staff, students, and visitors of the campus. The position provides protection of people and property through regular patrols, enforcement of campus policies and prompt response to incidents.

• Maintain a safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors.
• Provide assistance by offering information, directions, and access to authorized areas across the campus.
• Protect campus property against theft damage, and other threats, while ensuring the personal safety of individuals on campus.
• Conduct routine patrols to identify and address any safety concerns or irregularities, initiating contact with emergency personnel when necessary.
• Enforce campus policies and procedures to uphold order and compliance among all members of the campus community, including employees, students, and visitors.

• Demonstrate knowledge of security operations, procedures, and best practices applicable to the campus environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact in a respectful honest, and professional manner in all situations.
• Excellent observation and recall skills to identify and respond to unusual suspicious activities.
• The ability to perform the physical and mental duties required of the position, including prolonged walking, standing, and emergency response.
• Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent, or relevant full-time work experience.
• Must possess or be able to obtain the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Service (DCJS) Campus Security Officer Certification within six (6) months of hire.
