The Senior Communication Strategist, UVA Community Health is responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of communications initiatives that advance UVA Community Health and UVA Health enterprise objectives. Reporting to the Director of UVA Community Health Communications, the role functions as a senior individual contributor and trusted advisor to internal client groups, providing counsel on communications strategy, channel selection, messaging, and execution. The position holds primary responsibility for editorial planning and content governance for assigned internal communications channels, with support for some external channels and audiences as needed depending on the project.

The Senior Communication Strategist translates organizational strategies and leadership priorities into actionable internal communications plans and high quality content that informs, aligns, and engages internal audiences. This role applies data and performance metrics to measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement, while collaborating closely with internal communications peers and enterprise partners to ensure alignment across internal and external communications. The position supports high visibility initiatives, special projects, and crisis communications, contributing to system wide coordination and message integrity.

This position is employed by University Medical Center but dedicated full time to the communication needs of UVA Community Health, which comprises three hospitals and dozens of clinics across northern Virginia and Culpeper. For this reason, the position must reside in proximity to those local market hospitals and be able to go on-site regularly.

Responsible for developing and executing complex, strategic communication plans and initiatives to support the engagement of and professional needs of UVA Health internal and executive teams. This position leads the development and delivery of strategic, timely and cost-efficient communications messages and campaigns to achieve specific, measurable goals, in alignment with organizational priorities. This position will design and maintain effective, informative, and creative internal communications and productively engage with all our stakeholders via multiple channels, including digital, print, multimedia, etc. As a senior communications strategist, this individual will work closely with other members of the Internal and Executive Communications team on larger editorial initiatives and content strategy. Responsibilities include application of internal communications principles, efficient project management, quality content creation, excellent interdepartmental communications, and the ability to manage multiple priorities to meet demanding deadlines with a variety of stakeholders and teams.
  • Plans, develops, and supports internal communications strategies to achieve specific, measurable goals, ensuring organizational needs are met and aligned with system priorities
  • Plays a lead role in the editorial planning and project management for one or more internal communications channels
  • Analyzes and reports on channel and content performance metrics, delivering data-forward insights and improvement recommendations to the team and leaders.
  • Manages editorial planning tools used to support editorial calendars, content creation and other internal communications assets.
  • Serves as primary communications advisor and liaison to assigned client areas within the UVA Health organization
  • Partners with leaders and internal constituents to identify communications needs, opportunities, and challenges; creates and executes content and communication vehicles to further the understanding of and engagement in the UVA Health mission, vision, values, goals, and enterprise initiatives.
  • In support of client areas, leads the planning, development, production and evaluation of targeted internal communications plans, materials, and multimedia campaigns.
  • Develops and proposes story and messaging concepts and writes and edits content for various internal uses, including but not limited to newsletters, announcements, video scripts, profiles, and articles. Consults with team members, faculty, and outside sources as necessary to ensure accuracy.
  • Works proactively and collaboratively across UVA Health to develop and cascade internal communications that are well integrated into overarching organizational communications plans
  • Develops collaborative partnerships with other internal communications teams as well as with media relations, digital strategy, content, and social media teams to ensure communications are aligned and consistent internally and externally
  • Ensures compliance with editorial guidelines and visual standards
  • Creates and manages measurement of internal communications initiatives; optimizes communications accordingly
  • Supports significant special projects as assigned by department leadership

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in corporate or executive communications, internal communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
Licensure: None require

ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and editing marketing and public relations communications.
  • Content strategy experience for print and digital channels preferred.
  • Experience working directly with executive leaders to craft communications.
  • Direct experience with media relations.


ADDITIONAL SKILLS PREFERRED: Experience with healthcare industry conference submissions and awards submissions. Experience project managing an annual cycle of sponsorships, speakerships and external engagements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $70,600.00 - $141,201.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
