Summary:
Senior Directors are responsible for long-range strategic planning and must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the service or functional area. They advance the service or functional area's strategic goals through innovative new programs, services, or practices. Senior Directors assume a higher level of responsibility and authority in compliance and legal matters.
Typical Duties:
Organize and implement the College’s fund raising efforts, with a focus on major gift activity
Manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 of the College’s top prospects
Design and measure annual and long-range fund raising plan tied to the strategic needs of the College
Integrate the dean, faculty, students, and alumni into development activities where most appropriate and effective.
Lead the College’s development and alumni relations team, emphasizing team work, accountability and donor-centric systems
Coordinate and leverage fundraising activities with all other units at VCU
Ensure the accurate documentation of major gift solicitation plans and activities in the university’s prospect management system
Supervise, direct, motivate, and evaluate development support staff in order to assure consistency, quality, and quantity of work performed. Supervise external relations staff, including alumni, public relations and communications, in order to ensure coordination of information to stakeholders and friends of the College.
Develop, support, and evaluate campaign volunteer opportunities within the College, including recruitment and training of those volunteers
Audit internal operations in order to develop standardized procedures in keeping with university policies
Coordinate the composing, editing, and publishing of fundraising.
Typical Education and Experience:
An advanced degree required or work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
Typical Expertise:
Minimum of 10 years professional experience in fundraising, public relations, marketing or a related field, or 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education development or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in facilitating major gifts through planned giving instruments
Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving
Travel involving automobile
