The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology (MIC) is the largest basic science department in the School of Medicine in the University of Virginia Health System. Highly interdisciplinary, the faculty pursue breakthrough research and collaborate widely to advance scientific discovery. MIC is an energetic, robust, and exciting department with a multi-million dollar portfolio of federal, foundation, and industry grants, as well as large intramural department funds.

The MIC Administrative Office is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join an established team of professionals. The Senior Financial Analyst will operate independently to support the MIC faculty with account budgeting, financial reporting, post-award grant administration, and management and review of the day-to-day accounting activities of the department. This is a key position which requires collaboration and excellent communication with department faculty and staff, School of Medicine Dean’s Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, University Finance, and other University organizations. The selected candidate must be aware of and follow University and sponsor guidelines as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Senior Financial Analyst will also act as a consultant, providing functional and technical direction to other administrative staff and faculty members on financial policies, procedures, and applications.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a finance related field

Experience: Five years

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should be highly organized and have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to record and report financial data clearly and accurately, set and adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and work with new University initiatives.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with accounting and financial administration in an academic health system. Preference will also be given to candidates with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and a working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Access.

This is an exempt level, benefited position. The expected hiring range is between $80,000 - $95,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA and is eligible for a hybrid schedule.
