As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Design Services team by:
  • Leading Projects: Develop and manage the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders.
  • Design Excellence: Prepare detailed design documents for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using Revit.
  • Team Collaboration: Assign tasks to team members, provide mentorship, and assist in resolving complex engineering challenges.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure construction documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with building codes and University guidelines.
  • Construction Administration: Oversee construction administration services, including submittal reviews, punch list inspections, and project closeout.
  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies to assess project viability and make informed recommendations.
  • Standards Development: Adhere to and help develop departmental standards to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects, engineers, and University stakeholders.


Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Work Experience: Seven years of mechanical design experience
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical systems (Revit preferred)
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer required
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.


Anticipated Compensation Range: $110,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience; Sign-on bonus available!

This is a full-time exempt-level position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits are effective day one , and package highlights include:
  • 22 days of paid time off, increasing with service; 13+ paid holidays each year, in addition to paid time off; Parental and Community Service Leave
  • Choose between two generous retirement plans. The VRS plan offers a pension based on years of service plus a defined contribution with the ability to receive up to 3.5% in employer contributions/cash match. The ORP plan (through TIAA or Fidelity) offers an employer contribution of 8.9%.

Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks and health screening prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
