Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties. Facilities Management is seeking a Sign Shop Worker who will engrave various types of signs using a computer engraver, ensuring that signs meet the University and national standards. The incumbent will also use woodworking and layout & design skills to construct signs.
Duties Include:
Perform sign making using hand and power tools. Installing interior and exterior signage using hand and power tools, read blueprints and maps, to uphold the overall aesthetic appeal of buildings and grounds.
Operate a wide variety of small hand and power tools, as well as larger equipment and vehicles such as pick-up trucks, tractors, saws, and snow blowers
Adhere to applicable traffic laws, operator instructions, required appropriate clothing and protection, safety standards, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Perform special delivery services by loading items on delivery vehicles, safeguarding items during transit, personally delivering items, and obtaining the appropriate signature from a higher authority to provide evidence of receipt of the delivered items.
Perform custodial services in areas such as buildings, classrooms, offices, and job sites, as needed.
Move furniture regarding special event setup or remodeling and renovations.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: One year of sign shop or related experience, such as the creation or manufacturing of industrial signs graphics and displays . C arpentry experience building and installing signage is strongly preferred. Experience with commercial signage is highly preferred.
Licensure: Valid Driver's license.
Preferred Computer Skills: Knowledge of programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign, or other such commercial programs.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $17.00 - $21.00 per hour. This is a full-time, overtime eligible position with UVa benefits . Employees benefits package highlights include:

The selected candidate will need to complete all necessary background checks prior to their start date. This position may require the incumbent to work in UVA Health System facilities that are subject to agency policies including, but not limited to, health screening and immunization compliance.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision, and sense of smell.
