Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
The Administrative Assistant position of the SBDC is established to support the activities of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a program of Mountain Empire Community College (MECC).
The Assistant will adhere to the policies and procedures of the SBDC and MECC with the view of seeking continuous improvement of the methods and procedures that are necessary for an effective and efficient operation.
The Assistant will support SBDC business, which provides technical assistance services to Center clients, participation in the production of the Center’s seminar program, assistance in compliance with Center reporting requirements, marketing and promoting the activities to the Center and to serve, in the absence of management, ensuring day-to-day activities of the Center continue.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in the position:
Ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
Resourceful in the absence of a supervisor with the ability to work independently.
Basic understanding of accounting systems with the ability to learn and utilize daily.
Excellent customer service skills in a public/client-facing role utilizing diplomacy and ability to interact with the regional business community.
Ability to compose business correspondence utilizing proper grammar and punctuation.
Minimum required qualifications:
Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Business & Information Technology field or 2 years of experience in an office setting conducting administrative and/or accounting functions.
Experience using or certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field. Microsoft Excel certification. Social media management experience
