Software Engineer - Center for Behavioral Health & Technology (CBHT)

The University of Virginia's Center for Behavioral Health & Technology (CBHT) in the School of Medicine is seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to lead the development of innovative web and mobile-based health intervention applications. IMPORTANT WORK ARRANGEMENT REQUIREMENT
This position is on-site at least three (3) days per week. Candidates must reside near the University of Virginia (UVA) Grounds or be willing to relocate to the Charlottesville area to meet this expectation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge web and mobile health applications.
  • Architect scalable, secure, and maintainable systems to meet evolving business needs.
  • Guide project planning and execution to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system architecture and design specifications.
  • Conduct code reviews to enforce best practices and standards.
  • Mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Diagnose performance issues and implement optimizations.
  • Collaborate with researchers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate complex project requirements into technical solutions.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance efficiency and innovation.


Minimum Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred).

Experience:
  • 5+ years of demonstrated software development experience, including leadership roles.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Python, etc.).
  • Expertise in web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular).
  • Strong database design and management skills (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms.
  • Background in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of health-related technologies and data security (HIPAA compliance).
  • Experience with APIs and third-party service integration.
  • Proven success mentoring and managing teams.


Compensation
  • $88,704-$99,792 (for candidates with 5+ years of experience).
  • $75,708-$85,172 (for candidates with under 5 years of experience).
    Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.
