Job Description
Assists in performing the Soil Testing Laboratory’s analytical and clerical tasks. Performs pH determination and nutrient extraction for ICP analysis on over 50,000 soil samples annually. Also performs soluble salts and organic matter tests. Utilizes the lab’s unique software to enter Soil Sample Information Sheets, generate, retrieve and revise reports. Helps with the lab’s daily handling of funds. Provides customer support to the lab’s clients of farmers, agribusiness personnel, homeowners, landscapers and researchers. This is a part-time, seasonal position with little to no hours in the summer, with most hours worked October – April.
Required Qualifications
Training or knowledge and experience in the sciences with general laboratory equipment, computers, reagents, procedures and analytical techniques; Ability to perform rapid, accurate, reproducible work and keep things in order despite interruptions, to work effectively with others, and to follow complex instructions; Ability to interact well with the public, and have keyboarding skills of reasonable speed with a high degree of accuracy; Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry up to 30 lbs. over short distances and above head level, and to climb a flight of stairs several times a day, and to work in environments of high soil dust, noise, with strong acids and odors, and adjacent to radio frequency electrical generators.
Preferred Qualifications
BS in Sciences; Experience with customer service, funds handling, and with MS Windows, Word, and Excel.
