The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking to hire a part-time (wage) mental health professional for the position of Staff Psychotherapist - Art Therapist. This position will utilize a brand-new art therapy space at our state-of-the-art Student Health and Wellness Building. The ideal candidate will have experience providing Art Therapy to adolescents or adults. Competitive candidates will also have experience working with individuals from a diversity of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Job Responsibilities: • Provides inclusive and integrative mental health services (screenings, intakes, referral assistance and individual and group psychotherapy) to UVA students presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns • Develops and coordinates a CAPS Art Therapy Program and provides art therapy to students in group and individual formats • Consults with faculty, staff, students, families, and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students • Develops and delivers outreach programming to various groups within the university community • May provide some clinical supervision and training to psychology interns and other trainees
Minimum Qualifications - Licensed as a mental health professional in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or license-eligible; must be licensed within 6 months of hire) - Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work or PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a closely related field - At least 2 years of professional experience providing psychotherapy to adolescents or adults - Expertise in art therapy and motivation and ability to build an art therapy program that includes group-based interventions - Experience providing psychotherapy to adolescents and/or adults - Knowledge and competency in culturally informed therapeutic approaches - Experience with brief models of psychotherapy - Crisis management skills, including experience with risk assessment, safety planning and facilitating transfers of care to inpatient facilities - Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team (collaborating with medical and mental health professionals)
Preferred Experience - Certification or degree as an art therapist - Experience working on a college or university campus - Experience leading psychotherapy groups - Experience providing outreach and speaking to diverse audiences - Experience supervising therapists-in-training
