Job Description

The Stewardship Officer is a member of the Advancement Division's Donor Relations team with responsibilities to pursue and promote the overall institutional goals related to best in class stewardship, relationship building and customer service for internal and external constituents. This role will contribute to the Virginia Tech goal of increasing donor retention and the alumni giving rate.||The Stewardship Officer will create and implement an annual strategy to manage, coordinate and distribute customized stewardship for a portfolio of donors who have supported Virginia Tech.||This position manages multiple and competing priorities in the dynamic Donor Relations environment. This role is part of a transparent, innovative, high performing and dynamic team. The Stewardship Officer demonstrates best in class standards including being meticulously accurate and anticipating constituent needs. This position has frequent contact with internal and external constituents providing information and assisting in the resolution of questions while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive donor information.

Additional duties may include strategic collaboration with university partners and donors for responsibilities such as leading the weekly acknowledgment letter process, overseeing communications content and strategic messaging executed by the Office of Donor Relations, or processing fund agreements to document donors’ philanthropic support of the university. Additional responsibilities could also include leading centralized scholarship stewardship, administering stewardship of annual gift donors, or leading stewardship of our donor giving societies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and experience in fundraising, stewardship, communications, or relevant area.

Ability to collaborate, identify and solve problems in a fast paced environment.

Demonstrated experience in using a constituent database, such as Blackbaud or a similar system.

Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office products.

Demonstrated professionalism, excellent communications skills, with ability to write clear, well composed correspondence.

Strong customer service skills and organizational skills with the capability to work independently and manage multiple and competing tasks with meticulous attention to detail.

Ability to handle confidential materials and information.

Other items:
Regional and national travel required for the purposes of conducting field research, cultivation,solicitation and stewardship, which may include overnights and weekends.

Must have the ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.

Ability to work nights and weekends, and participation in college or university programs when possible.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to candidates with experience in higher education.

Ability to speak and write articulately, persuasively and with sensitivity to donor concerns.

Preference for proven success in building productive relationships with senior administrators, key business leaders, faculty, staff, institutional boards, volunteers, and/or donors.

Ability to effectively write and manipulate database queries for the retrieval and production of detailed constituent information.

Demonstrated experience with motivating volunteers as well as donors.
