Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Student Engagement Specialist provides exceptional, student-centered experiences through holistic student engagement that fosters student growth, wellbeing, and belonging. This role will be responsible for the planning, purchasing, and assessment of student engagement activities and must be creative thinking, detail oriented and student centered. This role also includes participating in ongoing professional development and training to maintain continuous knowledge of best practice, institutional policies, and evolving student needs, thereby contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in student success services.

The Student Engagement Specialist will leverage various technology tools to enhance the department, participate in ongoing training and professional development, and contribute to the overall mission and strategic goals of the college.

• The Student Engagement Specialist should be skilled in applying student development theories to support the academic and personal growth of a diverse student body while providing exceptional, student-centered service and experiences.
• They should possess comprehensive knowledge of student development programs, student event planning and marketing, and student leadership development.
• Proficiency in interpreting institutional policies and procedures is crucial in ensuring a seamless experience for our students and community.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Ability to foster positive relationships while working independently and as part of a team.
• Adept in using technology to manage event planning, student engagement and data effectively.
• Demonstrates cultural competency, creating an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds.
• Continuous professional development is also necessary to remain current with student engagement best practices and institutional goals.
