Duties:

NRCC is seeking a student-focused, connection building, and compassionate problem solver to join our team as a full-time Student Services Advisor. An advisor works closely with potential and currently enrolled students to identify career pathways in academic programs that match their interests and skills. The advisor serves as a resource to assist individuals in overcoming non-academic barriers that may affect their ability to complete their educational goals successfully. This includes communicating regularly with students, maintaining records of student outreach and other interactions, making connections to available college and community support services, and assisting with academic interventions when necessary. An advisor utilizes a variety of technological solutions in addition to in-person interactions to connect with students. The ability to utilize and learn new technology and the willingness to work in different environments is essential. The advisor’s primary role will be onboarding and supporting students in various programs, including nursing and other health professions.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Understanding and commitment to the community college philosophy.
  • Demonstrated experience advising students.
  • Ability to provide students with accurate information about academic programs and services.
  • Ability to develop individualized academic plans.

  • Effective oral and written communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in use of technology, such as Microsoft Office and Google docs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.

Additional factors that may be considered include:
  • Work experience in a higher education setting or in advising or academic coaching.
  • Successful experience developing and executing best practices and appropriate interventions to support student success in college.
  • Previous experience advising nursing or other health profession students.
  • Knowledge of available financial aid and scholarship information.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or other student information software, case management systems and relevant educational technologies.
