The School of Nursing at the University of Virginia invites applications for a new Student Success Specialist positionthat will primarily support undergraduates in the BSN program. This is a new position, and we are looking for someone who will creatively develop a dynamic and strategic student support plan for our students. The Student Success Specialist collaborates with the academic program directors, faculty, advisors, academic program managers, and the Office of Admissions and Student Services (OASS) staff to lead academic success and student development initiatives. The Student Success Specialist is responsible for building, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating activities and programs related to student success, with a dedicated focus on undergraduate BSN students.

What you will do:
Direct the planning, execution, and assessment of holistic success strategies and initiatives throughout the student lifecycle.
Design academic support models based on current evidence-based practices that promote student retention and success.
Develop and improve the learning experience and success of nursing students from first year to fourth year, particularly with first generation learners and students from underrepresented groups.
Partner to address student concerns and needs in a timely and proactive fashion.
Support the work of the School’s global initiatives including administrative, advising, and strategic planning.
Contribute to the academic program team and OASS in the coordination of new student orientation and other special events, collaborating with faculty, staff, University partners, and students.
Partner with and/or actively participate in committees, work groups, task forces to ensure commitment to student support initiatives, the common good, community engaged partnerships, UVA and School of Nursing policies and processes. This includes working closely with learning support offices across grounds, including the Student Disability Access Center, the Dathel and John Georges Student Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the University Career Center, and others.
Seek pathways for continuous improvement for self and for the program.
Provide support to OASS programs and events and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience advising, and mentoring students, or related work.
Experience building compassionate relationships with populations representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences and/or abilities.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both independently and in a team environment in academic and/or community setting.
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and student advocacy skills, including the ability to “meet students where they are.”
Ability to be flexible, organized; high degree of attention to detail is critical.
Ability to work under deadlines, to adapt to changing priorities and needs, to assume other duties as assigned.
Ability to use a variety of platforms and programs including Windows, Apple, and/or Microsoft Office products.
Experience with advising software
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in counseling, student affairs, nursing, higher education, or related industry
Experience collaborating with University faculty, staff, and/or partners.
Experience with assessment and data-driven decision-making.
Demonstrated knowledge of online, hybrid and other learning platforms & approaches.
Knowledge of higher education policies, procedures and theories, including student development and student advising.
Demonstrated ability to learn new education technology tools and resources.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Salary Range for this position is $56,000 - $62,000. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:
