Job Description:
The Andy Taylor Center is part of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) in the College of Education and Human Services at Longwood University. The Substitute Assistant Early Childhood Teacher will provide support to the Lead Teacher in the classroom. The Substitute Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting with planning, guiding, and assessing instruction. The selected candidate will also be responsible for collaborating with Lead Teachers to ensure smooth transitions, similar expectations throughout the day, and efficient planning. Additionally, the Substitute Assistant Teacher will facilitate open communication with families. This position will report to the Site Director.
Requirements:
The ECDI seeks candidates with experience working in project-based early childhood programming, preferably Reggio-inspired teaching. Candidates should have experience working in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related fields. Early childhood credentials or Associate's degree preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the development of young children and knowledge of and/or training in emergent curriculum and documentation. It is also preferred that candidates have experience collaboratively teaching in a school or childcare center with children birth to age five. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, which may include, but is not limited to occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, sitting, repetitive motion.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary wage position limited to an average of 29 hours per week and 1500 hours maximum per work year. Pay band 1. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful fingerprint based criminal background investigation is required.
