Job Description
We are looking for a Veterinary Technician who is interested in joining a growing surgical oncology team. The ideal candidate is interested in providing high-quality veterinary care and providing excellent client service. We aim to utilize your full technical skill set and help you grow as a technician!
The surgical oncology service is a friendly group comprised of two ACVS Fellows of Surgical Oncology, and two surgical interns. We are expanding our minimally invasive surgery options and training with that equipment will be provided.
The surgical oncology service currently operates out of two locations, the main Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Blacksburg and the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center (ACCRC) in Roanoke, however this position will be based at the VTH Blacksburg. In Blacksburg, the service is supported by ancillary services such as anesthesia for major surgeries, ICU/critical care for complicated cases, radiology for imaging and a laboratory. We collaborate with all services at both the ACCRC and VTH to foster a positive learning environment for the entire team.

You will have the opportunity to cross train in other services of the hospital and will provide support to these areas as needed. Primary species are dogs/cats. There is no on-call responsibility or expectation to work on major holidays when the University is closed. Primary work schedule will be Monday-Thursday.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of basic nursing skills
Skills required for anesthesia and sedation work-up, induction, monitoring and recovery for imaging and simple procedures
Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for License in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician (LVT)
