The Surgical Skills Training Center Lead is a newly created position that offers a unique opportunity to combine operating room experience with a growing interest in surgical education and program development.

In this role, you’ll apply your OR knowledge to prepare surgical training environments and serve as the primary OR technician during sessions led by department faculty and visiting industry professionals. These sessions focus on teaching and demonstrating a range of surgical procedures, often involving the latest medical technologies.

  • Hands-On Involvement: Support surgical training sessions by preparing rooms and assisting with procedures in a simulated environment.
  • Exposure to Innovation: Observe and work alongside faculty and industry partners as they introduce and teach new surgical tools and techniques.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Hours vary and may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends, depending on session needs.
  • Growth Potential: As the center expands, there may be opportunities to supervise additional staff and contribute to the development of the program.
  • Benefits-Eligible: This position qualifies for UVA Health benefits with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours as the program grows.


This role is well-suited for someone with OR experience who is interested in supporting surgical education and contributing to a collaborative, evolving training environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Training Program, accredited nursing program, or equivalent military training required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Proficient communicator, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to cold, radiation, and blood/body fluids.
