The Visionarium Lab at Virginia Tech is known internationally for engagement in immersive and web virtual reality visualization. Our lab collaborates with researchers and students in science, engineering, and design activities across the University – https://vis.arc.vt.edu - to enable meaningful human interactions with their datasets. We have an opening for enthusiastic candidates who want to use 3D graphics and scientific visualization to provide solutions for researchers at the cutting edge. As part of the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) group, http://www.arc.vt.edu, this position will work closely with computational faculty and students and Information Technology teams to support usable and performant visualization environments.
The successful candidate will:
● Interact with domain specialists to facilitate access to ARC's visual computing technologies
● Ensure functionality and availability of visualization resources by providing hardware and software support
● Grow professionally through ongoing training, certification programs, and continued learning
● Use effective communication and collaboration skills
● Enjoy variety in their work, which includes elements of customer service and interaction, hands-on equipment setup, troubleshooting, and repair
Required Qualifications
● The successful candidate must have a BS/BA in Computer Science, a related engineering degree, or other related degrees.
● Demonstrated experience using or administering Linux/Unix systems
● Solid communication skills, able to explain technical problems to non-technical audiences.
● Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
● Demonstrated experience with Hardware and software provisioning
● Demonstrated experience with Graphics API and/or visualization packages
Preferred Qualifications
● Demonstrated experience with 3D graphics, especially real-time rendering
● Demonstrated experience with immersive Virtual Reality systems
● Demonstrated experience with software development
● Demonstrated experience with systems engineering and administration for high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
