Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia - principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Job Description:
The Systems Technologist serves as the primary System Administrative for Canvas, the college’s LMS, including providing direct support to the college as well as interfacing with the VCCS on support, maintenance, and integration needs. This includes being the escalation path from the helpdesk for advanced support needs, including complex issues requiring VCCS engagement, LTI integrations, and working with textbook publishers. As the LMS administration for Canvas, this role also updates Canvas course templates and shells each semester, archives previous semesters, and configures course content and enrollment as needed.
The primary role of the Systems Technologist is to provides technical support to faculty, staff, and students. This position focuses on furthering PVCC strategic outcomes by supporting the innovative use of educational technologies, including but not limited to classroom and collaboration solutions and software such as HyFlex classrooms, Canvas, Zoom, Panopto and assistive technologies.
This role supports improving the use of technological solutions leveraged through the college by creating user-friendly training materials in various formats including handouts, web pages, videos and by providing group and individualized training.
The Systems Technologist also both facilitates and provides direct support of classroom technologies including the design and ongoing training/support of all conference and classroom technologies utilized at PVCC including our current HyFlex AV solutions, active learning, computer labs, and electronic classrooms.
As a member of the Technology Services team, this role works with the IT Operations Supervisor and Technology Services helpdesk to ensure helpdesk technicians have the necessary KB articles, tools, and training to provide first tier support to PVCC faculty, staff, and students regarding educational technology issues in supported systems such as Zoom, Canvas, Panopto, etc.
This position also assists faculty and staff with data collection, programming, and reporting from Canvas. This includes supporting divisions with the Shared Services Distance Learning (SSDL) program as well as assisting IRPIE with supporting program data collection and course evaluation needs.
Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of services and recommend changes in procedures to meet user needs
Ability to review and analyze data to predict future needs and recommend both technological and service enhancements
Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
Ability to design and conduct high-quality training for staff, faculty, and students
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and refer only the most complex issues to higher levels
Ability to make decisions with sound judgment, based on expertise and experience
Ability to ensure compliance with all necessary rules, regulations, standards, and laws
Ability to evaluate, recommend, learn, and implement new technology solutions
Ability to develop technical standards, project documentation, and policies
Superior customer-service skills; must enjoy helping faculty and students
Ability to synthesize multiple information streams
Associate degree in Educational Technology, Information Technology, Instructional Design, or closely related field, or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated experience providing high-quality customer service
Demonstrated experience providing direct customer service required
Intermediate knowledge of various OS’s including Windows 10, MacOS, and iOS
Demonstrated experience administrating a Learning Management System (LMS), ideally Canvas.
Demonstrated understanding of teaching pedagogy and practice.
Demonstrated experience to create training materials including user-friendly documentation, web pages, and videos.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency in business and education software such as Microsoft Office 365, PeopleSoft, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
Advanced knowledge of various OS’s including Windows 10, MacOS, and iOS
Demonstrated understanding of database configuration, administration, and programming.
Extensive knowledge of college, system, and state policies and procedures related to instructional support
Demonstrated experience supporting various classroom/conference technologies
