Job Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide patients with quality treatment interventions in order to facilitate therapeutic change. This role will help prepare patients for re-entry into the community, and to improve or maintain functioning in areas of psychological, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, and physical needs.
Minimum Qualifications
A degree in Music Therapy or Recreation Therapy from an accredited college or university
Current professional certification or certification obtained within 6 months
Experience working in a clinical setting
Experience working with older adults and/or individuals with mental illness
What is Piedmont Geriatric Hospital?
PGH is a 123-bed, gero-psychiatric hospital, operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). PGH is Virginia’s only state Mental Health Facility solely dedicated to evaluation and treatment of persons aged 65 and older. The goal of care is to facilitate discharge to a less restrictive setting by assisting patients to improve and/or maintain their physical, mental and social functioning.
