Summary
VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Trades Specialist-Plumbing in the Physical Plant.
The Trades Specialist in this position utilizes knowledge of the Plumbing trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure ensuring efficient operation of Zone facilities. In addition, the Trades Specialist provides exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff, and students supporting the University's mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression; identifies and documents system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advises management of tasks requiring priority attention; and provides quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime.

Minimum Hiring Standards
Minimum of several years' experience in commercial/institutional Plumbing and mechanical maintenance
Ability to diagnose, repair, and service a wide variety of plumbing and mechanical systems
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers
Knowledge of appropriate building codes
Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes
Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment
Ability to work in a diverse environment required
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
Plumbing courses I, II, III, code classes, basic and advanced training, or equivalent combination of experience and trade/craft training
State of Virginia Journeyman Plumbing License required, or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
Working knowledge of other trades
Required Licensure/Certification
State of Virginia Driver's license
State of Virginia Journeyman Journeyman Plumbing License required, or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment
Backflow Prevention Device license required, or the ability to obtain in the first year of employment
