John Tyler Becoming Bright Point Community College is a two-year, public institution of higher education and the fifth largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. Provide and maintain a safe, comfortable and attractive campus environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. This position is responsible for landscape maintenance of college grounds to include care and maintenance of lawns, plantings, flowerbeds, paved, and natural areas; operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; compliance with safety standards; classroom set-ups and deliveries; and other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Primary worksite located at the Chester campus. Serves as essential personnel during inclement weather and/or college closures.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Prior experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping required. Certified pesticide applicator’s license is preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months. Ability to follow oral and written instructions regarding a variety of grounds maintenance tasks. Knowledge of grounds maintenance principles, materials, and methods, equipment operation and repair, landscaping, horticulture, turf management, and workplace safety. Requires ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of times. Excellent customer service and communication skills for interacting and collaborating with a diverse group of employees, students, and visitors to the college campus. Ability to take initiative and contribute to a high level of team performance and morale with little supervision. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Valid Virginia Driver’s license is required. Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified pesticide applicator’s license is preferred.
