This position is responsible for coordinating daily operations, maintaining student records, and implementing high-impact services including advising, graduate school preparation, research engagement, and academic support. The Coordinator manages a caseload of participants and supports them through tailored academic planning, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities aligned with the McNair grant objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Support & Advising
  • Provide academic, career, and graduate school advising to McNair Scholars, with attention to individual needs and long-term goals.
  • Support students in identifying appropriate graduate programs, preparing application materials, and navigating the admissions and funding processes (e.g., fellowships, assistantships).
  • Coordinate individualized degree planning and needs assessments to promote retention and timely graduation.
  • Assist students in developing strong non-cognitive skills such as goal-setting, time management, and resilience.
  • Maintain a caseload of participants and provide consistent, documented services and follow-up.

Program Implementation & Operations
  • Coordinate the delivery of McNair workshops, seminars, mentoring sessions, and academic events.
  • Support logistics for the Summer Research Institute, including faculty collaboration, student placements, travel arrangements, and research dissemination.
  • Track student participation in program activities and support graduate school application progress.
  • Assist with the coordination of national research conferences and scholarly presentation opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment of program activities with McNair grant goals and federal guidelines.

Assessment, Evaluation & Data Management
  • Maintain accurate records and data for all participant services in accordance with federal compliance requirements.
  • Monitor academic progress, research engagement, and graduate school application outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing data reports, performance updates, and information for the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Develop and implement assessment and evaluation tools to improve service delivery and student outcomes.

Partnerships & Collaboration
  • Work closely with the McNair Director, faculty mentors, and graduate school representatives to support participant development.
  • Promote a student-centered culture of excellence, inclusion, and achievement.
  • Support outreach and recruitment of eligible McNair participants.
  • Maintain strong communication with university departments and external collaborators.

Other Duties

  • Represent the McNair program at events, conferences, and campus functions.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, student development, counseling, social work, STEM, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience providing academic, career, and financial advising to underrepresented college students.
  • Experience supporting students with scholarly engagement, graduate admissions, and financial aid.
  • Experience coordinating mentoring, academic support, and tutorial services.
  • Familiarity with student needs assessments, academic planning, and learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of graduate school application procedures, timelines, and resources.
  • Ability to track student retention, graduation, and outcomes.
  • Proficiency in maintaining caseloads, documenting services, and managing data for compliance.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and barriers faced by first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse student populations, faculty, and staff.
Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with TRIO programs or other federal college access and success initiatives.
  • Experience in collegiate teaching, research mentorship, or coordinating undergraduate research programs.
  • Knowledge of national research presentation opportunities and graduate school funding resources.
  • Familiarity with non-cognitive coaching strategies including motivation, advocacy, and goal tracking.
