Transit Professionals are the primary operational contacts responsible for spearheading customer service efforts, providing internal support for the fixed route transit service, collecting route efficiency data and reporting results, and managing data. They serve as the primary radio contact with drivers on the road, maintaining the GPS interface, scheduling drivers, and communicating with the maintenance division. Transit Professionals supervise staff.
The Business Title for this position is UTS Evening Shift Operations Supervisor.
This is primarily an afternoon/eveningposition. Typical hours will range from 1PM to 10PM, Monday-Friday, with weekendsand other hours necessary depending on service levels. Assigned overtime on the weekends based on service and event needs is required.Flexibility with scheduling is a necessity of the position, and faithful attendance is a core requirement.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Manage and supervise Parking and Transportation staff. Work cohesively with vendor staff for additional services within the department. Serve as liaison with other transportation services, contractors, vendors, and third-party service providers during the eveningtimeframe.
Serve as primary radio contact with University Transit Service (UTS) drivers on the road. Answer questions, respond to emergencies on route, investigate accidents, plan and establish route detours. Schedule drivers to cover shifts, maintain the online scheduling software, and maintain hard copy scheduling documents. Work to cover open shifts, and drive a bus as needed.
Plan, track, and record transit bus rotation, ensure even wear and tear on buses and other vehicles, schedule preventive maintenance, and serve as liaison with in-house maintenance and eveningservice crew and fleet technician staff.
Oversee the collection and compilation of data to create daily, weekly, and monthly route performance reports and bus log reports. Analyze collected data and present findings. Make recommendations as appropriate.
Collaborate with other managers and departments to create and implement new transit initiatives, analyze route efficiencies, and recommend solutions for future route structuring.
Control real-time bus finder GPS interface.
Assist with coordination and supervision of charter actives for UVA major events and athletics.
Respond to public questions and concerns via phone, email, and other methods.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualified candidates must have:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: At least two years of experience within a fixed route transit organization providing front-line customer service.
Licensure: Active Driver's License required. Virginia Commercial Driver's License Type A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements preferred. Must have a positive point balance on license.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Safe operation of a transit bus requires sustained sitting, driving, pushing/pulling (steering wheel and various controls), repetitive motion, use of both hands, use of either hand, fine finger manipulation, andwrist movement. Safe operation also includes repetitive motion with both ankles/feet, with both possessing the strength and dexterity to fully depress the service brake and accelerator (right), andturn signal controls (left) present on the transit bus units within the Parking and Transportation fleet.
Boarding/alighting the transit bus requires the ability to climb stairs (at least one step up/down). Successful operation of ADA Accessible equipment aboard the transit bus requires bending, lifting, and carrying.
Work performed during special events and as part of servicing the equipment requires standing, traveling, and the potential for bending, lifting, and carrying.
Allthese physical requirements should be considered essential to the position.
