The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the UVA School of Education and Human Development seeks applicants for multiple Research Specialist (Wage) positions across Virginia school districts and in the broader Philadelphia PA area.
The Curiosity in Classrooms Project Research Specialist (Wage) will conduct on-site sessions at partner elementary schools, working directly with students and teachers. Incumbents will collect data using project guidelines and ensure secure transfer of collected data. The position involves establishing rapport with young participants along with knowledge of study research procedures and protocols, so experience interacting with children and attention to detail are necessary. Extensive training will be provided.
Sessions are scheduled according to the needs of the study. Availability during normal elementary school hours (7:45 am - 3:30 pm) is essential.
Anticipated start date will be late September to mid-October, 2023.
Anticipated Position Compensation: $17-21/hour commensurate with education and experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Required/essential: a high school diploma or equivalent is required; excellent interpersonal communication skills; Experience using Microsoft office programs (Powerpoint, Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook); Comfort using technology and troubleshooting in programs on tablets and/or laptops; Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed) is required.
Preferred: completed coursework at an institute of higher education, at least one year of experience performing direct work with children in either an educational setting or an out-of-school setting such as a summer camp or an after-school program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving use of desktop computers, laptops, and tablets during sessions. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend sessions, meetings, and programs.
