Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. The Department of Neurology is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Vascular Neurology. The Vascular Neurology Division is the home of VCU’s Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical and/or translational research.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Candidates with appropriate training and experience may be asked to provide endovascular stroke care. 2. Teaching The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurology residents (and those from other Departments), and vascular neurology fellows. 3. Research The Division of Vascular Neurology is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical and/or translational research projects and clinical trials. 4. Service Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Required Qualifications:
• BC/BE in Neurology • Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology. • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated promise, or a successful track record, as a clinical or translational vascular neuroscientist. • Training and experience in endovascular stroke care.
