Blue Ridge Community College in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, invites applications for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs. The VP will provide energetic and visionary leadership, in partnership with a dynamic faculty, administration and staff, who are committed to student-centered and innovative education and instruction. Position reports to the President and joins a committed team that guides and directs the College as it meets the challenge of preparing its students for workforce and/or transfer to baccalaureate colleges and universities.
The Vice President is the Chief Academic Officer of the College and is responsible for:
Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating all college academic programs, including, but not limited to:
Associate degrees focused on College Transfer and Occupational/Technical programs, Certificates, and Career Studies Certificates, Dual enrollment and distance learning delivery methods, Educational partnerships.
Providing leadership in collaboration with academic administrators for two Academic Divisions, Student and Academic Support Services, Library Services, Institutional Effectiveness, Technology Services and Workforce Services.
Collaborating with business, educational, and community leaders, to serve the educational and workforce development needs of the College’s service region and beyond.
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate from a regionally-accredited institution, awarded by application closing deadline.
At least three years of successful academic administrative experience in an accredited postsecondary institution.
Documented teaching experience in higher education.
Progressively responsible experience managing people, budgets, and programs in higher education.
Demonstrated commitment to achieving academic excellence, through a participative leadership style and shared governance.
Demonstrated experience leading the implementation of an institution’s mission, vision, values and strategic directions statements.
Clear understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy of the comprehensive community college.
Demonstrated effectiveness in verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience related to:
accreditation associations, assessment procedures, and employing institutional effectiveness results in decision making.
how technology can be used to improve instruction and administrative effectiveness.
the role of student support services in contributing to student success and the collegiate experience.
transfer, occupational/technical, and distance learning programs.
workforce development programs and services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Community college administrative experience is highly preferred.
Extensive experience with supervision of direct and indirect reports.
Teaching experience within the past 5 years.
