Job Description
Provide writing and editing support for Dining Services including: Writing news stories, press releases, magazine articles, presentations, reports, web content, advertising copy, newsletters, social media posts, blogs, and promotional text. Working with multimedia communicators to secure photography, videography, and design elements to complete a project. Editing and proofreading a variety of content to ensure consistency and accuracy while adhering to Associated Press, university, and departmental style guidelines. Acting as an integral member of the Dining Services marketing team, assisting on news, web, print, promotions, award submissions and other projects, providing creative ideas and supporting productivity goals. Supporting implementation of an integrated marketing approach to communication projects. Working with others throughout Student Affairs to continually identify new and compelling ways to tell our stories.
Required Qualifications
B.A. in English, communications and/or equivalent related experience. Previous experience with proofreading, editing, communications, and business writing. Demonstrated mastery of the English language and grammar. Previous experience with copyediting, and proofreading, with excellent attention to accuracy and detail. Previous experience writing marketing copy and news releases. Strong word processing skills with emphasis on efficiency and organization. Previous computer experience in Microsoft Office software. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of people in a friendly and courteous manner. Previous customer service experience in a professional or academic setting. Must anticipate and meet deadlines with emphasis on completing work ahead of schedule. Strong time management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision, prioritize work, and perform multiple functions simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to operate within a creative team based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Associated Press style as well as the Virginia Tech Style Guide for written documents. Experience with marketing programs and services to a student population in a university setting.
