Job Summary/Basic Functions

We're looking for a passionate individual to join our organization as a University Police Officer. The Police Offer performs law enforcement, crime prevention, security and related public safety functions within state controlled property. To protect life, property and enforce the rules and regulations of University of Mary Washington as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in such a manner which supports the mission of the University. Additionally, to provide a safe environment which is conducive to the education of students, and promotes harmony for all members of the University community.

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

• Knowledge of and experience in the principles and techniques of law enforcement, security, crime detection and prevention, as well as criminal investigation.
• Mandatory certification by the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Law Enforcement Officer.
• Proficiency with and experience in the use of police equipment relevant to the job; to include the use of carried weapons.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing, with diverse groups of employees, students and members of the general public; to interpret laws, polices, and regulations governing the operation of the institution; the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.

Required Education:

• Graduation from a high school or equivalency.

Certified police officers can be paid up to $11,000 for prior experience.
