Job Description

The Surgery Ward Technician accompanies a clinician through the duties of patient care during the course of each work shift, while updating the medical record in real time and clinician reports when applicable. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with creating templates for discharges; Assisting in surgery: scrub in for surgeries, as needed; When not scrubbed in assist faculty or resident with documenting surgical procedures. Attach all medical record info to the EzyVet file - examples: rDVM records, follow-up emails and photos. Title the medical records in EzyVet. Update the Master Problem Lists (MPL) - use histopathology reports. - Contact owners to schedule/sign consent forms for clinical studies. Provides technical support to clinical faculty and senior veterinary students in the surgical section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including ward and treatment room management, administering treatments and medications ordered by clinical faculty, and animal care administration/management.

Required Qualifications

Licensed or Licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician(LVT).Working knowledge of basic nursing skills as well as knowledge of basic anesthetic equipment and monitoring; ability to place intravenous catheters and to perform endotracheal intubation; excellent communication skills; Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer). Working knowledge of basic companion animal anatomy and physiology as a result of courses or experience; ability to understand instructions; ability to handle and restrain all species of animal; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent typing skills, strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to details. Computer literacy, efficiency, and troubleshooting. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer).
