Job Description
The Instructor of Collaborative Piano will serve as a full-time faculty member within the School of Performing Arts at Virginia Tech. This 9-month academic year appointment with an initial two-year contract commencing August 2026 involves teaching undergraduate and occasionally graduate students in piano-related disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction in class piano and keyboard skills, as well as instrumental and vocal accompanying techniques. The instructor will coach student ensembles, collaborate with faculty and guest artists in performances, and provide accompaniment for a variety of departmental events including faculty and guest recitals, sophomore continuation exams, senior recitals, and student juries. In addition to teaching and performance responsibilities, the instructor will coordinate accompanying activities across the department and contribute to recruitment and outreach efforts. The candidate is expected to maintain an active professional profile at the regional and national levels and may be assigned additional duties based on their qualifications and the evolving needs of the School.

Required Qualifications
· Master of Music in Piano or Collaborative Piano
· Significant professional experience as a collaborative pianist
· Demonstrated ability to teach piano-related courses and accompanying skills at the collegiate level
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano or Collaborative Piano
· Experience coordinating accompanying activities at the collegiate level
· Experience working with a broad range of student backgrounds and implementing teaching practices that support varied learning needs
· Experience with recruitment and community engagement in a university setting
