Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly-ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.
Richard Bland College of William & Mary is currently seeking an exceptional Biology Professor to serve in a permanent, non-tenure track, full-time position (with option for renewal based upon performance and college policy) for the Fall 2023 semester. The primary role of this position is to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success. In addition to teaching biology at all levels and supporting the development of stronger interdisciplinary ties with other departments, duties include student advising and committee service under our shared governance structure as part of the Department of Natural Science at the College.
Job Responsibilities include:
*Teaching biology courses in accordance with college policies and procedures *Preparing and submitting timely grade reports and other reports on student performance, as required *Organizing class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the courses *Providing input and working with other faculty and staff to review, produce, and/or select course-related materials
Minimum Qualifications
*Master of Science degree from an accredited institution in a biology-related discipline or a master’s degree in any field with eighteen (18) graduate credit hours in biology
*Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction, which includes introductory general biology lecture and lab courses for majors and non-majors as well as more specialized 200-level courses for prospective majors
*Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first- and second-year college students
*Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and rigorous academic environment, utilizing exceptional organizational skills, and effective problem resolution efforts
*Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students utilizing a high level of interpersonal skills, and customer service principles
*Experience working with traditional and nontraditional adult learners, high-achieving students, and underprepared students
Additional Considerations
*Terminal degree in medicine (M.D.), doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.), or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) in biological science
*Significant experience as a college faculty member
*Extensive background and experience in developing and implementing innovative education delivery techniques
